Transcription and Arrangement
Do you need a lead sheet, transcription of a favorite guitar solo or an arrangement of an original song? If you are not yet able to create your own transcriptions or arrangements, you can certainly learn to do so! As you study and learn these skills, you will not only have the satisfaction of playing the music that you love the most, you will also experience a dramatic growth in your creative and guitar playing abilities.
The best way to begin learning to transcribe music is to include the study of ear training in your daily practice. By working with A Guitar Player’s Guide to Ear Training, you will improve your ability to hear the melody and chords in a song and will expand your knowledge of the musical language. Overlap your ear training with a study of basic music theory, where you can gather more transcription tools and top it all off with the tips in Chapter 9 of Learning to Play Lead Guitar (Analyzing and Transcribing Solos) for everything you need!
Getting There / Getting Help
Of course, it takes a lot of practice to be able to transcribe music quickly and accurately. There is no substitute for time and repetition – and it is likely that while you are logging in that practice, you will continue to be hungry for a transcription or two! It is also probable that you your success will come incrementally and you will want some confirmation or coaching along the way.
I can help! Although I can’t guarantee a quick turnaround due to my busy schedule, I do provide transcription and arrangement services – or I can help you do it yourself, which is a satisfying, cost effective and educational alternative.
If you are interested in learning part or all of a guitar piece, but don’t necessarily need to have it written out, I can help you in a Skypelesson. I will listen to the piece when we meet and will walk you through how to play it. You will be able to witness the transcription process and ask questions along the way.
If you need it written out (either standard notation or tablature) and would like for me to do that, submit your request and I will reply with a cost estimate. (You can read about the services below.) In addition to providing transcriptions, I can arrange a piece of your choice for guitar.
Get in touch and enjoy playing what you want to play, the way you want to play it!
